John Jacob Boettner

John Jacob Boettner, 85, husband of Reta J. Boettner, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, March, 3, 2021. A celebration of his life will be held at Brickyard Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, SC at a later date. John was born April 8, 1935 in Akron, Ohio, son of the late Harry W. Boettner and Frances Leak Boettner. He was a graduate of Ohio University and attended both Kent State University and Northwestern University for graduate studies. Upon graduation from Ohio University, he entered the training program at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company which was the beginning of a lengthy and successful career. His distinguished career with Bridgestone Firestone took him to numerous cities working with manufacturing plants and start-ups. John worked for several years with Bridgestone as vice president of manufacturing and then returned to Bridgestone Firestone retiring in 1995 after a fulfilling career. John was a man of many seasons and many interests. He was a US Army Reserves veteran and his commitment to civic organizations and public service includes volunteering and memberships in chambers of commerce, Kiwanis, Rotary Club, Boy Scouts of America, The United Way Board, being a past Kentucky Colonel and numerous boards in Mt. Pleasant, SC. John's lived life to its fullest. He received his sea captain's license and spent a lot of time on the water in and around the Charleston area. He was a certified BBQ judge, a Fort Moultrie tour guide and managed the Brickyard Plantation boat storage facility. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. John and Reta celebrated more than 32 years of marriage. In addition to Reta, he is survived by his son, Jeff Boettner of McMinnville, TN; son, William J. Nist (Laura) of Buffalo, NY; daughter-in-law, Helen Nist of New Paltz, NY; grandchildren Joe, Emma and Sophie Nist; sisters, Dorothy Greiner of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Martha Andres (Dudley) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Nist.
