Nicholas J. Giuliani Obituary

Published by D'Anjolell Memorial Home of Broomall on Mar. 10, 2021.
Giuliani, D.D.S Nicholas J. "Nick" age 82, on March 10, 2021 of Havertown. A St. Thomas More, St. Joseph's College and Temple Dental school graduate. Son of the late Nicholas and Olga (Ciancaglini) Giuliani Brother of the late Robert Giuliani Survived by his beloved wife of 57 yrs. Nancy R. (nee Russo), his son Nicholas A. M.D. (Beth, D.O.), his daughters Maria (Claudio) Recchilungo and Laura (Steven Binnig) Giuliani, his 9 grandchildren; Claudio Recchilungo Jr., Sophia Recchilungo, Lorenzo Recchilungo, Julianna Recchilungo, Gabriella Recchilungo, Hannah Giuliani, Isabella Giuliani, Owen Binnig, Henry Binnig, and his brother William (Loretta) and sister-in-law, Diane. Nick grew up in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia and, as the oldest of all his cousins by a span of five years, he was often tasked with babysitting responsibilities leading him to be lovingly adored as the "Big Brother." He spent his young life playing street baseball, managing a paper route and studying hard at St. Callistus Catholic Elementary School. His commitment and diligence resulted in full scholarships to St. Thomas More High School (he was the class valedictorian) and St. Joseph's College. He continued to Temple Dental School where his sense of national duty inspired him to enlist in the United States Air Force R.O.T.C. program. He graduated in 1963 as a full Captain. During his time in dental school, he met the love of his life, Nancy Russo, and they married in 1963. The newlyweds spent their first two years stationed at a military base in Topeka, Kansas. In 1964, he and Nancy welcomed their first child, Nicholas. Nick often shared fond memories of his time spent in the Heartland, reminiscing on the life-long, genuine friendships he developed and recounting humorous stories around military balls and baseball team blunders. However, Nick's heart always remained with his family's roots in Philadelphia. They moved back to Pennsylvania settling in Havertown. In 1966, he and Nancy welcomed their daughter, Maria and in 1974, another daughter, Laura. Nick established his dental practice close by in Drexel Hill. For five decades he serviced his patients, developing deep relationships with them and their families. And depending upon your experience with Dr. G. he was either affectionately known as the "humming" dentist or "The Hammer." Nick was an active St. Tommy More and St. Joe's alumnus, as well as a member of the local Sons of Italy chapter. A child of an Italian immigrant, he retained a deep respect and love for the culture of his father's homeland, especially the food, wine and music. Although Nick held an extensive knowledge of classical music and opera, he was also passionate about sports especially the Philadelphia Phillies and would often organize Spring Training trips to Clearwater, FL with his son, twin brothers and cousins. Nick enjoyed spending summers at the New Jersey shore and in his later years could be found sitting out on the deck of his shore house in Sea Isle City sipping a gin & tonic. Above all else, Nick was devoted to his family. As the eldest of his brothers and cousins, he took his role as de-facto family historian seriously - sharing stories about the older generations of aunts and uncles. As husband and father, he was kind, generous and devilishly funny. His affection for his nine grandchildren was profound and obvious to all who knew him. He attended almost all of their sporting and academic events and proudly spoke of their accomplishments. He loved to be with his family and found no greater joy than simply being in their presence. His gentle spirit, kind heart and big smile will be greatly missed to all who knew and loved him. Relatives & Friends are invited to his Visitation on Thursday March 18th at 9:30 AM at St. Dorothy's Church Twp. Line and Burmont Rd. Drexel Hill 19026 Funeral Mass 10:30 AM Int. SS. Peter & Paul Cem. In lieu of flowers contributions in Nicks name can be made to the American Cancer Society 1626 Locust Street, Philadelphia, Pa 19103 or CANCER.ORG would be appreciated. www.danjolell.com

Dr Giuliani was my favorite dentist since he took over for Dr Melvin Bach's practice when I was about 6 or 7. Never needed novocaine, because he was always gentle when he worked on my teeth. God bless and keep you Dr G.

My life was completely changed when I started seeing Dr. Giuliani. In a short time, he resolved all of the dental problems that had troubled me throughout my childhood and early adulthood. After I got married, he became the dentist for our family.
I watched as his friendly demeanor and approach drew my sons in. They were never reluctant to see a dentist because of the way Dr. Giuliani treated them with kid gloves.
It was a challenge for us to see him. It could take upwards of two hours to go to from work in Lansdale; pick up the kids at school in Jenkintown; then drive to Drexel Hill; all during rush hour. But he was such a great dentist, that it was worth it.
We had some great discussions about the Phillies, Eagles, 76ers, and Philly basketball. (Many times these were one person discussions as he was talking as he was treating me.)
I was with him from 1972 until his retirement a few years ago. I still miss him.
I would like to express my and my family's condolences to the Giuliani family

Nick, Thanks for being a great and true friend over these many years. I first met you as my dentist about a half a century ago and plus. That then advanced to a close and memorable friendship that has extended for these so many wonderful years. Your dental work was excellent and your friendship was wonderful and heartedly appreciated. Will miss those long and thoughtful baseball discussions but more than that seeing that great and friendly demeanor of yours. You were always in a good and cheerful mood. Your professional skills were great. Your friendship was an even more exceptional. Thanks and God bless you.

Nick was truly a wonderful kind man and a huge Phillies fan.
For many years he was our family’s dentist .
Through a great aunt he was a cugino in our family and thought of as part of our extended family.
Many a Phillies game he attended with my dad and uncle.
His proudest accomplishment was his children. His office was full of family photos
I’m so sorry to hear if his passing.
My condolences to-his wife and family .

Nick really was like a Big Brother to me. I'll always remember that Nick took me to my first Phillies night game in 1958 when I was 9 years old. It was a memorable occasion as we watched Robin Roberts win his 200th game! I'll never forget cousin Nick!
