Kathleen Kunkel Obituary

Published by Craft Givnish Funeral Home Inc on Jun. 15, 2021.
Kathleen Sharon Kunkel, 70, of Glenside, Pennsylvania, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 15, 2021. She was born August 17, 1950 to the late Joseph and Virginia Feehan. Kathy was the beloved wife of Jeffrey Kunkel, Sr; mother of Michael Sagnis, Dawn Conte, and Jeffrey Kunkel, Jr; grandmother of Hailey, Marcella, Jeffrey G, Dominic, Chloey, and Franklin; sister of Lynne Brough, Joan Gates, Michele McClure, and Fran DeMarco; she is also survived by a loving extended family, friends, and generations of medical professionals that she has influenced and trained through the years. Kathy was born in Philadelphia, and raised both there and in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She was a graduate of St. Hubert's High School for Girls and later from nursing school with her LPN. During her nursing career, Kathy was not only just a skilled professional capable of managing and adapting to the ever changing field as a knowledgeable practitioner, but also as a constant mentor to new generations of nurses, colleagues, and students alike, from settings in assisted living facilities to a brain trauma center. Her work ethic was a constant factor in her life as Kathy held three jobs while finishing her LPN training and raising her family. It was during this time that Kathy met the love of her life, Jeff Kunkel, while they were both working around the clock. The couple was married and put those collective efforts into raising their family. In her free time, Kathy loved being at the shore and travelling in the summer, whether it was Atlantic City, Somers Point, or Ocean City. This lifelong passion for the beach also instilled a deep love and fascination with dolphins. In the winter months, Christmas festivities were closely followed by the family tradition of staying overnight on New Years Eve in the city to see the Mummers Parade and take in the atmosphere of celebration in Philadelphia. All of these activities were firmly rooted in spending as much time as she could with her family, spreading her love across each of the generations in her life, but especially to her children and grandchildren (including those with four legs). Kathy was a natural caretaker in her life and will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, the many people's lives she touched, even if it was just to call you "doll" in passing, and for all of the knowledge she passed along to the generations of medical professionals that will follow in her wake. Relatives, friends, and colleagues are invited to join Kathy's family for her Life Celebration on Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 12:00 until 2:00 P.M. Family flowers arranged by Kremp Florist.

Kathy was an awesome person. She had spirit, and always made me feel welcome at family functions. She was easy to talk to, and spoke fondly of her job, co-workers, and family members. She was proud of her children and grandchildren, and accepted people for who they were, despite their faults.

Kathy was my friend and I am a better man and luckier person for it. I will cherish the memories of making ceramic Christmas Trees and watching Monday Night Football with her. She was a wonderful mother and devoted bride to my best friend, Jeff. I look forward to seeing her again. Dan
