Richard G. Marshall, 81, of Hooksett, passed away on July 19, 2021 at his home after a period of declining health. He was born in Boston, MA on October 27, 1939 to Gordon and Ila (Burgess) Marshall. He also was honored as the Hooksett Citizen of the Year and a Kiwanis Volunteer of the Year. His passion was Santa and he was a founding member of the New England Santa Society. Dick enjoyed singing in his church choir, making wooden toys and spending time with his children. He will be remembered most for his generous spirit and his love of all things Santa. For 15 years he held a Santa's Workshop hosting families and children to come meet Santa and his elves and participate in building a wooden toy to take home. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Donna (Ross) Marshall of Hooksett; step-children, Susan Brisson and husband, Len of Manchester and Joanna Williams of Manchester; son, Eric Marshall of Hooksett and daughter, Kathryn Tilton and husband, George of Hooksett. He was most proud of seven grandchildren, Alex, Ben, Jake, Karah, Isaac, Sam and Emily. He is predeceased by his parents, sister, Jean Straw, and his daughter, Lisa Marshall. SERVICES: A celebration of Dick's life will take place at the Congregational Church of Hooksett, 5 Veterans Dr., Hooksett, August 7th, 2021 at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Union Leader Santa Fund.

When I think of Richard "Dick" Marshall, I think of someone who was always larger than life. I had the pleasure of working with Dick for almost 25 years while he was a member of the Hooksett planning board and I was a staff member to the board. I learned so much during that time. I also learned never to challenge him, unless you knew your "stuff". He was a Force to be reckoned with in his younger years as planning board Chair. Dick was an extremely knowledgeable individual. Always recognizable by his strong, deep Santa laugh! He gave his time so generously to the children of Hooksett. I considered Dick a good friend, and was shocked to hear of his passing. I will never forget you, Dick. Sincere condolences to Donna and the Marshall family on your loss.

Donna,
To you and your family, condolences from me and Stephanie. While I knew Dick during our Central years, I really got to know him as we worked on maintaining the Central Class of '57 Alumni Network. His Santa efforts and community participation were legendary. So many times I got the chance to watch his interaction and joy throughout the year with children when we were at the Backroom. Masterful.

I consider myself enriched to have not missed this late in life time experience with him and you.

I worked with Dick starting in 1978 as a planner in the North Country Council and later as its Executive Director until he retired. He was a friend of those of us who stood for doing the right thing and he always had our backs in difficult times. I was sorry to see him leave DOT and even sorrier to see his passing. He was a quality man. My sincerest condolences to his family. NH lost a gentleman and a good planner.
