VIRGINIA A. POPPER Obituary

Published by D'Anjolell Memorial Home of Broomall on Jun. 11, 2022.
POPPER Virginia A "Ginny" (nee Houser), age 83, on June 10, 2022 of Broomall, PA. Predeceased by her husband Richard A. "Dick" Sr. and her brother Roy Houser. Survived by son Richard A. Jr.(Cheri Rice), 2 grandchildren Natalie and Alexander, her brother George Houser, her sister Ruth Tess, and niece Julie (Jason) Levy. Ginny was born in West Philadelphia, and her family moved to Upper Darby when she was a young girl. She grew up in a warm household with her brothers and sister, went to Keystone Elementary School on West Chester Pike, Upper Darby Junior High (now Beverly Hills Junior High), and Upper Darby High School where she graduated at top of her class in 1957. She grew up an active member of Sellers Memorial Church on State Road. She worked at the University of Pennsylvania, where she also took classes. It was there she met and eventually married Dick Popper in 1963 at Saint Margaret's in Narberth. Their first apartment was in West Philadelphia, where a year after marriage they had their only child Richard. They then moved to West Oak Lane Section of Philadelphia and then to Broomall in 1968, where they joined Saint Anastasia's Parish. In 1978, her husband Dick was in a dreadful car accident, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Ginny cared for Dick throughout his long recovery, while striving to limit the impact on their son through his high school and college years. She also took an active role in the lives of her twin nieces, Julia and Dorothy Houser, and particularly helped Julia with her visual disability. During the early 1980's while in her mid-40's, Ginny entered The Bryn Mawr School of Nursing, and became a nurse in the Endoscopy and Colonoscopy Units at Bryn Mawr Hospital. She also served as a private nurse for other paraplegics. Ginny loved to care for people, to garden and to travel, going to the Oberammergau Passion Play in Germany, as well as Bermuda, Ireland, bus trips with the Saint Anastasia's seniors, and visiting her son and daughter living in California. After Dick's death in 1995, she eventually found wonderful new love with John Kelly, with whom she travelled and had terrific times. She adored her grandchildren Natalie and Alex, and grandnieces Jessica and Jennifer. Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing Wednesday, June 15th 11:00 – 11:45 a.m. followed by her Funeral Mass 12:00 noon ALL IN CHURCH at St. Anastasia Church 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073. Entombment Glenwood Mausoleum. Contributions in Virginia's name may be made to St. Anastasia Church at 3301 W Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 1907

Ginny Popper and I had known each other for 70 years. She was my loving friend thru all situations of life. I will miss her physical presence in my life, but she will remain in my heart always. She was a most beautiful soul whom I was privileged to have known.
