Alice Hirson’s legacy
Hirson was on television longer than many of her fans have been alive. Born in New York City, she made her television debut in 1951 on “Starlight Theater,” and in 1952 she appeared on an episode of “Hallmark Hall of Fame.” Her roles were sparse in the 1960s, but at the end of the decade, she stepped into the world of soaps when she was cast on “The Edge of Night,” where she played Stephanie Martin. The role ended up being a turning point in her career.
During the 1970s, Hirson became a mainstay on popular daytime dramas, most notably “One Life to Live,” on which she played Eileen Riley Siegel across 65 episodes. Before that, she was cast on “Another World” and played Marsha Davis. Her roles continued into the 1980s, when she took up the mantle of Mavis Anderson on the primetime hit, “Dallas,” cementing her place in soap history.
In the decades to come, Hirson would have stints on shows like “Ellen,” “7th Heaven,” “Home Fires,” and “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” Her additional series appearances include “The Waltons,” “Barney Miller,” “Taxi,” “General Hospital,” and others. In her decades as an actress, Hirson racked up over 100 credits, most recently voice work, including on video games “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” and “Murdered: Soul Suspect.”
