Driving career
In 2001, when he was just 16 years old, East became the youngest driver ever to win a USAC midget race. He went on to win USAC tournaments in 2004, 2012, and 2013, and he was named 2004 USAC Driver of the Year. He drove with NASCARe28099s ST Motorsports and Brewco Motorsports in the Busch Series, as well as driving for Roush Racing in the Craftsman Truck Series. He had 48 total career national victories, and he was one of only a handful of USAC drivers to win on both dirt and pavement tracks in their three national divisions, Silver Crown, Sprint Cars and Midgets.
