Prolific rock music writer
David Dalton was an assistant for artist Andy Warhol in the 1960s and was taking photographs of the rock scene. He began sending his photos to the new rock magazine Rolling Stone when the magazine’s co-founder Jann Wenner asked him to caption his photos and that started his writing career at the magazine. He won a National Magazine Award in 1971 with co-writer David Felton for a multi-part article on Charles Manson. After writing for Rolling Stone, he became a prolific rock music biographer. He wrote biographies of Janis Joplin, Sid Vicious, the Rolling Stones, James Dean, and helped Steven Tyler, Marianne Faithfull, and Meatloaf write their biographies.
