Johnson worked with a number of bands from her hometown of Manchester, England, as well as around the British Isles. She first came to prominence when she sang on the 1991 Primal Scream album “Screamadelica,” which was Melody Maker’s album of the year and widely ranked among the best albums of the ‘90s in the U.K. Johnson worked with A Certain Ratio for 25 years, along with other bands including New Order, the Pet Shop Boys, and Electronic. Her debut solo album was scheduled to be released in September 2020.
