At least 48 people have died, and dozens more are missing, after Hurricane Otis struck Mexico in Acapulco and surrounding areas.
The hurricane made landfall as a category 5 on October 25, 2023. It was the first Pacific hurricane in recorded history to make landfall at that level of intensity.
According to Mexico’s civil defense agency, 43 of those who died were in Acapulco and five were in the neighboring town of Coyuca de Benitez.
