Jack De Mave’s legacy
De Mave was one of the stars of a later incarnation of the “Lassie” TV show, joining the cast in 1968 for Season 15 after a single appearance in another role the previous season. He played one of the forest rangers who took the famous collie in after her owners moved to Australia.
Another prominent role for De Mave came on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” He appeared in the series’ second episode as a man who accepted a party invitation from Rhoda – which she considered a date – only to show up with his wife. He returned for a Season Two episode in the same role. Some 1970s TV watchers may also recognize him as the Lone Ranger in a series of Frito-Lay ads; the role was popular enough that he also brought it to live appearances.
Other TV appearances for De Mave included “Surfside 6,” “F Troop,” “The Fugitive,” “Marcus Welby, M.D.,” “Loving,” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.” He had a three-episode arc on “Days of Our Lives” in 1998 as Dr. Gregory Eldridge.
