John Lasell’s legacy
Lasell’s most prominent acting role came via “Dark Shadows,” on which he played the psychologist Dr. Peter Guthrie, whose interest in the paranormal led him to Collinwood to explore the unusual phenomena there. He appeared in 25 episodes in the show’s first season in 1967. Before “Dark Shadows,” Lasell had played a number of small roles in such TV shows as “Gunsmoke,” “Route 66,” “Flipper,” “I Spy,” “Perry Mason,” and “The Fugitive.” He had also appeared in a 1961 episode of “The Twilight Zone,” playing John Wilkes Booth in “Back There,” which explored time travel.
After “Dark Shadows,” Lasell continued his TV career with guest roles on TV shows like “The F.B.I.,” “Mission: Impossible,” “Mod Squad,” “Lassie,” “Dallas,” and “Falcon Crest.” His most recent credit came in the 1985 TV miniseries “A Death in California.”
