by Kirk Fox

Ken Starr was a lawyer best known as the independent counsel who led the investigation of the Whitewater controversy that led to President Bill Clinton’s impeachment.

Whitewater Investigation

Ken Starr was a lawyer who was appointed as a federal judge during President Ronald Reagan’s administration. He then served as solicitor general under President George H.W. Bush. In 1994, Starr was appointed to lead the Whitewater investigation into real estate dealings by President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary Clinton. Starr’s investigation led to the discovery of President Clinton’s relationship with intern Monica Lewinsky. Clinton was accused of lying under oath to a federal grand jury and obstructing justice. Starr’s 1998 report to Congress led to the impeachment of President Clinton who would later be acquitted of the charges during trial, and he served out his second term.

Later, Starr was the President and Chancellor of Baylor University in Texas. He resigned in 2016 when the college was accused of mishandling sexual assault complaints filed by female students. In 2020, Starr was on the legal team for former President Trump’s first impeachment trial.
