Libya Floods (2023)

1 min read

by Linnea Crowther

At least 8,000 people have died, and many thousands of others are missing, after heavy rains in Libya from Storm Daniel led to severe flooding over the weekend.

Flooding in the eastern part of the country was already dire when the situation was made much worse: two dams near the city of Derna collapsed. Water swept through the city and caused further devastation.

This is a developing story. If more information becomes available, we will update this page. For full coverage, please visit The New York Times.

We invite you to share condolences for those who died in our Guest Book.
