Mark Sheehan’s legacy
Sheehan got his start with the boy band Mytown, founded in 1996. Their singles included “Party All Night” and “Body Bumpin.’” After releasing a single album, Mytown broke up, and Sheehan joined with his former bandmate, keyboardist and singer Danny O’Donoghue, to form the Script along with drummer Glen Power. Formed in 2001, the Script didn’t release their debut album until 2008, but they quickly found success in Ireland and the U.K. with their debut single, “We Cry.” The follow-up, “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved,” climbed to No. 2 at home and received modest attention in the U.S., and the Script found their first big success in the U.S. with their third single, “Breakeven.” Later hits included “For the First Time,” “Nothing,” “Hall of Fame,” and “Superheroes.” Sheehan continued recording with the Script until his death.
Sheehan on the song “Hall of Fame”
“It penetrates to the everyday person, since there is no Hall of Fame for nurses, doctors, firemen and normal people. That’s why we wrote that song. I’m super proud of that song.” —from a 2017 interview for Digital Journal
