Mickey Kuhn was the last surviving credited cast member of the 1939 smash “Gone With the Wind,” having played Beau Wilkes as a child actor.

Child actor and later life

Kuhn first appeared in movies as a toddler, and he had several small parts before landing the role that would make him part of Hollywood history. Kuhn was six years old when he played Beau in “Gone With the Wind,” having won the part amidst steep competition from other young actors. With the death of Olivia de Havilland (1916–2020) two years ago, he became the film’s last surviving credited actor. Kuhn appeared in more than 30 films, including roles in “Red River” with John Wayne (1907–1979) and “Broken Arrow” with James Stewart (1908–1997). In 1951, after appearing in “On the Loose” and “A Streetcar Named Desire,” Kuhn enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years. He had a handful of movie roles after his service, but he chose to leave Hollywood in 1956. Later in life, Kuhn worked for American Airlines in airport management.
