by Eric San Juan

Mike Batayeh was an actor and stand-up comedian who played the manager of a laundromat with a secret meth lab in “Breaking Bad.”

Mike Batayeh’s legacy

Hailing from Detroit, Batayeh’s comedic and acting style on stage earned him the nickname “the Robin Williams of Arab-America” by director Amin Matalqa. Batayeh often based his comedy on his experience as an Arab American, the ups and downs of people mistaking his ethnicity, and other observations from his day-to-day life.

On screen, Batayeh was perhaps best known for his role as Dennis Markowski, manager of the laundromat owned by Gus Fring in “Breaking Bad.” Batayeh’s character ran the business that served as a cover for Fring’s meth lab. He appeared in three episodes of the show in seasons four and five, ultimately meeting his demise in prison.

Batayeh also made appearances on shows like “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “The Shield,” “CSI: Miami,” and “Everybody Loves Raymond.”
