Mike Hagerty (1954–2022), played Mr. Treeger on “Friends”

Mike Hagerty was an actor known for roles in TV shows including “Friends,” “Seinfeld,” and “Somebody Somewhere.”

Acting career

A native of Chicago, Hagerty got his start in the famous Second City improv troupe, and his Chicago accent became one of his trademarks as an actor. He made early TV appearances on shows including “Cheers,” “Married… with Children,” and “Family Ties,” going on to play dozens of TV roles over the years. Among the best known was his recurring role on “Friends” playing apartment building maintenance supervisor Mr. Treeger, who made Rachel cry and learned ballroom dance with Joey. Hagerty had a supporting role on “The George Carlin Show” as tavern regular Frank MacNamara and co-starred on the recent HBO series “Somebody Somewhere” as Ed Miller, as well as playing recurring roles in “Lucky Louie” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” He also appeared on the “Seinfeld” episode “The Raincoats” as antiques dealer Rudy, and he made appearances on many other shows including “The Wonder Years,” “ER,” “Glee,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “The Goldbergs.” Hagerty also had a number of small roles in movies such as “Overboard,” “Wayne’s World,” “Speed 2: Cruise Control,” and “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.”
