Kamen was featured on the cover of The Face magazine in 1984 before becoming known to a wider audience for starring in a 1985 Levi’s commercial. In it, he stripped down in a laundromat to wash his jeans while wearing only boxers. In 1986, Kamen released his first single, “Each Time You Break My Heart,” which was written and produced by Madonna and Stephen Bray; Madonna also sang backing vocals. His 1990 single “I Promised Myself,” which Kamen also wrote, was popular across Europe. Both songs were modest hits on U.S. dancefloors. Kamen’s other singles included “Tell Me” and “Turn it Up.”
