by Linnea Crowther

At least 16 people were killed in a shooting in rural Nova Scotia on Saturday night and Sunday.

Among the victims was an R.C.M.P. officer, Const. Heidi Stevenson. Not all of the victims of the shooting have been publicly identified, but others whose lives were list include:

Lisa McCully, a teacher at Delbert Elementary School

Kristen Beaton, a care assistant

Heather O’Brien, a nurse

The shooting took place across a 31-mile area over the course of 12 hours. Towns affected included Portapique, Shubenacadie, and Enfield.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a statement including: “Every day, law enforcement members put themselves in harm’s way to ensure our safety and well-being. I thank them, and all first responders, for their unwavering dedication, professionalism, and service, and for always being there for us. As a country, in moments like these, we come together to support one another. Together we will mourn with the families of the victims, and help them get through this difficult time.”

We invite you to share condolences for the victims of the shooting in our Guest Book.
