Paul Teal’s legacy
Teal’s best-known credit to a national audience was “One Tree Hill,” the teen drama that ran on the WB and the CW from 2003 to 2012. He had a seven-episode arc in its seventh season playing Josh Avery, an actor who struggled with his homosexuality. “One Tree Hill” was filmed in Teal’s hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina, though he noted in an interview that it wasn’t until he decided to relocate to New York City that he got the big-break part.
In Wilmington, Teal had a rich onstage career, well known in the area for his roles in stage productions of “Into the Woods,” “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” “The Producers,” and many others from his teens until his final stage role in a 2022 production of “Newsies.”
Teal also made appearances on such TV shows as “The Walking Dead: World Beyond,” “Outer Banks,” and “American Rust.” He had a role in the 2022 Ben Affleck movie “Deep Water,” as well as in films like “Fear Street: Part Two – 1978” and “Descendents: The Rise of Red.”
