Sid Eudy (1960–2024), 1990s WWF wrestling star

by Eric San Juan

Sid Eudy was a 1990s wrestling star and former champion with the WCW and WWF (now the WWE) best known as “Sycho Sid” and “Sid Vicious.”

Sid Eudy’s legacy

Born in West Memphis, Arkansas, Sid Eudy entered the world of wrestling in the late 1980s, performing masked with Continental Championship Wrestling and calling himself Lord Humungous. A team-up with Shane Douglas helped his star rise in the early days, leading to stints with World Class Championship Wrestling — as Sid Vicious — and NWA World Championship Wrestling.

In 1991, Eudy debuted with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now known as the WWE). There, he made a splash by competing against some of the biggest names in the industry, including Hulk Hogan, Randy “Macho Man” Savage (1952–2011), and Ric Flair.  Throughout the decade, he would go back and forth between World Championship Wrestling and WWF, rising to WWF champion in 1996 and 1997. After injuries sidelined him for a time, he returned to the WCW in 1999 and became champion there, too, cementing him as one of the decade’s most notable wrestling stars.

However, injuries continued to hamper Eudy. He retired in 2001, made several short-lived comebacks in the years ahead, then hung up his boots for good in 2017, his last match performed for Great North Wrestling in Canada.
