We invite you to share condolences for Steve “Stezo” Williams in our Guest Book.
Rap Career
Going by Stezo, he started his music career as a dancer for the hip-hop group EPMD. Signing a record deal in 1989 with Sleeping Bag Records, Stezo received critical acclaim for his 1989 debut album which produced three singles, “To the Max,” “It’s My Turn,” and “Freak the Funk.” The drum break in “It’s My Turn” was one of the most sampled beats in 1990s hip-hop. He released two more albums that did not chart and later became a barber.
What they said about him
I remember it like YESTERDAY!!! We were downtown at the Mall and STEZO said… "Yo! We gonna be FLY J Watt!!!" And I said "Yo! We are ALREADY FLY!!! This is our last pic… "STILL FLY!!!" RIP My BROTHER!!! https://t.co/Gma49tEnjv
RIP Stezo 😞 Anyone who knows me knows that his debut album was/is one of my personal favourites – few albums I can listen to front to back forever but this is one of them. Also if ‘It’s My Turn’ and ‘To The Max’ weren’t playing at your jam in ‘89 then your jam wasn’t legit pic.twitter.com/KynO4Gc8zE
