Widespread Panic
Nance was invited to join a band in 1986 by guitarist Michael Houser, a friend from his high school days. The band quickly named themselves Widespread Panic. The group’s blend of Southern Rock, Blues, and Hard Rock along with their outstanding live performances earned the band a large following. Nance left the band in 2016 and toured with his Todd Nance & Friends musical outfit.
Todd Nance always seemed like "one of us", ya know. Like he just strolled in out of the crowd and sat down at the kit. And yet he helped create that sound, that force, that changed so many of our lives. I'm truly saddened by his loss and incredibly grateful for the time we had.
Roger Hawkins, the great Muscle Shoals session musician, once watched Widespread Panic recording an album and called them the "transition magicians." It was the highest of compliments. The backbone and driver of it all was this guy. RIP Todd Nance. So many great memories. So sad. pic.twitter.com/juMiRj92dN
