Tyler Christopher (1972–2023), played Nikolas on General Hospital

by Linnea Crowther

Tyler Christopher was an actor known for his soap opera roles, starring as Nikolas Cassadine on “General Hospital” and Stefan Di Mera on “Days of Our Lives.”

Tyler Christopher’s legacy

Christopher joined “General Hospital” in 1996, originating the role of Nikolas in his breakout performance. He won a Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Newcomer in his debut year, and he was nominated for four Daytime Emmy Awards during his time as Nikolas, finally winning in 2016. While Christopher was still with “General Hospital,” he also took a prominent recurring role on the teen drama “The Lying Game.” He briefly left the soap opera before returning, and going forward he balanced time on both shows. He returned to “General Hospital” full time after the 2013 cancellation of “The Lying Game.”

Christopher remained with “General Hospital” off and on through 2016, playing both Nikolas and, briefly, Connor Bishop. In 2017, he joined the cast of “Days of Our Lives” as Stefan DiMera, the son of the show’s great villain Stefano DiMera, played by Joseph Mascolo (1929–2016). Having originated the role of Stefan, Christopher was replaced by another actor in 2019. He also appeared on such TV shows as “The Pretender,” “Charmed,” “Angel,” and “CSI.”

Notable quote

“When people say, ‘I love your work,’ I take that very seriously because that means, ‘Okay, I work hard, I do my homework and I treat people with respect, and people notice that.’ And that’s what I want my legacy to be. That’s how I want to be remembered, as a guy who worked hard and treated people right.” —from a 2017 interview for Soap Opera Digest
