Today the University of Alabama will hold its graduation ceremony and remember class of 2011 graduate Zoƫ Bromberg.

Zoe Bromberg (Times Union)Nearly 1,500 people attended a memorial service in Jacksonville, Florida, July 15 for Zoƫ Bromberg, 23, who died in a traffic accident in Spain, where she was visiting her friend, Robert McLendon.

“ZoĆ«, 23, died July 12 when she and McLendon, 28, were thrown from a scooter and run over by an oncoming car on a curvy, narrow road,” reporter Jim Schoettler wrote in a poignant story in the Florida Times-Union.

“Her family remains unsure what caused the accident and hopes McLendon can help if he wakes from a medically induced coma.”

Bromberg graduated from the University of Alabama in May, but the graduation ceremonies were postponed until Aug. 6 due to the devastating April 27 tornado that leveled several neighborhoods in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

“ZoĆ«’s family still plans to attend the graduation ceremony, where her older brother, Clayton, will accept her diploma,” Schoettler wrote. “Her brother remains numb over her death.’The hardest part is waking up in the morning,’ said Clayton, 29.”

Extensive biographical information is provided in Bromberg’s obituary. Her online guest book has received more than 200 sympathy messages.
