It’s common for families to receive sympathy flowers after a death. For one family in the U.K., those flowers came with a special twist.
Jak Trueman was just 15 years old when he died Feb. 2, 2015. The teen had blogged about his struggle with a rare form of terminal cancer, posting updates about his disease and treatments on a Facebook page, Jak’s Journey. As he became more ill, his family and girlfriend assisted with the journal.
The day after Jak died , his mother, grandmother, and girlfriend each received flowers. The bouquets came with handwritten cards.
The sender? Jak himself.
To his mother Allison, Jak wrote “‘To mum, I love you and I will look after you. All my love, Jak.”
“It was just beautiful,” Allison told the Edinburgh News.

Jak’s legacy was celebrated with a charity soccer game feature his classmates and teachers, as well as professional soccer players. The “Jak Trueman Challenge Cup” raised more than £13,000 for cancer research, and an online fundraising page has raised more than £57,000.
