Nazareth
Dan McCafferty was a founding member of the legendary Scottish hard rock band Nazareth. The band began in 1968 with lead singer McCafferty, lead guitarist Manny Charlton (1941-2022), who just died in July, bassist Pete Agnew, and drummer Darrell Sweet (1947-1999). The band had success in the UK in the early 1970s with top ten hits “Broken Down Angel” and “Bad Bad Boy.” International fame came from their 1975 album ‘Hair of the Dog,’ with the title track becoming a staple of FM rock radio. Their cover version of the Everly Brothers song “Love Hurts” was an international hit and their only song to reach the top ten in the United States. McCafferty remained the lead singer of the band through the 2014 album “Rock n’ Roll Telephone,” when he retired from touring due to COPD. He released his third solo album “Last Testament” in 2019.
Notable Quote
“It could be like, ‘I’ll sing for ten minutes, everyone go for a pint, than I’ll sing for another ten minutes.’ I don’t know how well that would work!” – He told Ultimate Classic Rock in 2013 regarding retiring from touring due to COPD
