Darren Dutchyshen’s legacy
Dutchyshen first landed on the air at STV in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, kicking off a broadcast career that would last for decades. After stints at IMTV and hosting “Sports Night” on ITV for seven years, he joined The Sports Network in 1995. This is where he established himself as a mainstay of Canadian sports.
Dutchyshen initially hosted the weekend edition of “SportsDesk” and “CFL Live” before moving to the network’s flagship news program, “Sportscentre.” There, his friendly banter and sometimes edgy sense of humor made him a favorite among viewers. He also hosted Canadian coverage of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games and London 2012 Summer Games.
In 2021, he announced on the air that he was fighting prostate cancer, which cut back his on-air duties.
