Dino Danelli (1944–2022), drummer for The Rascals

Dino Danelli was a drummer and founding member of the rock/soul band The Rascals, known for their hit “Good Lovin.”  

Jazz drummer turned rocker 

Dino Danelli was a founding member and drummer of The Rascals. Originally called the Young Rascals, the members were Dinelli, pianist/vocalist Felix Cavaliiere, vocalist Eddie Brigati and guitarist Gene Cornish. Danelli was trained as a jazz drummer and had played with Lionel Hampton. He brought a jazz sensibility to the soul influenced rock music of The Rascals. He was known for his cool stage presence including stick twirls. The Rascals had many hit songs in the 1960s including “Good Lovin,” “Groovin,” and “A Beautiful Morning.” They broke up in 1972 but occasionally reunited for performances. Danelli later played in various bands including Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul.” The Rascals were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
