Beloved Cowboy Singer
Don Edwards was born in New Jersey and moved to Texas as a teenager to work in the oil fields. He was a singer and actor at Six Flags Over Texas in the early 1960s and moved to Nashville to get a recording contract and then came back to Texas. Known for his Western music and storytelling, he released many albums and performed live. He was a frequent headlining act at the Santa Clarity Cowboy Festival. Edwards was nominated twice for a Grammy Award, has two songs included in the Folklore Archives at the Library of Congress and won Best Male Performer from the Western Music Association. He played the character Smokey in the Robert Redford movie “The Horse Whisperer” and his song “Coyotes” was used in the documentary “Grizzly Man.”
