Ed Wheeler’s legacy

Brooklyn native Ed Wheeler first appeared on screen in the 1970s, appearing in commercials during the era while working his way into television and film appearances. By the 1980s, he was securing roles in films such as “Broadcast News” and “Presumed Innocent,” and shows like “New York Undercover,” “Monsters,” and “ABC Afterschool Specials.

Wheelers most notable roles arguably came via the TV mainstay “Law & Order,” on which he appeared six times. Most recently, he made appearances in 2010 on “Blue Bloods” and “One Life to Live.” He has also been in “Cosby,” “Whoopi,” “Ed,” “Soul Food,” and “Third Watch,” among many others.

Also a prolific stage actor, Wheeler earned a Living Legend Award at the National Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 2017. Late in his career, he formed a production company with his wife, debuting with a 2023 short film, “Keepers of the Flame.” Wheeler was a U.S. Army veteran who later studied at North Carolina College and Wilfred Beauty Academy.
