Computer Science Pioneer

Allen was a pioneering female computer scientist known for her work on compiler research. She earned a masters degree in in mathematics at the University of Michigan in 1957. She was hired by IBM and worked there for 45 years until 2002. Her work helped computers understand programs written by humans. In 2006, Allen won the Turing award, considered the highest honor in computer science.
