Musical career
White was the brother of Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White (1941–2016) and bassist Verdine White. Playing drums from a young age, he was already a professional musician in his teens, drumming with musicians including Donny Hathaway and Albertine Walker. He joined his brothers in the band in 1974, just as their music was beginning to climb to the top of the charts. White’s drumming energized popular singles including “Got to Get You into My Life,” “Boogie Wonderland,” and “Let’s Groove.” He left the band in 1984. While he was with Earth, Wind & Fire, White also played on albums by artists including Linda Ronstadt, Deniece Williams, and Ramsey Lewis (1935–2022).
