Greg Foster (1958–2023), world champion hurdler 

Greg Foster was an American hurdler. He is the only person to win three consecutive World Championship titles in the sport.

History-making athlete

Born in Chicago on August 4, 1958, Foster began his athletic rise in college, as a member of UCLA92s track team, the Bruins. In 1978, Foster92s title-winning 110-meter hurdling performance 96 which remains a UCLA record 96 helped the team capture the NCAA title. Foster went on to earn NCAA individual titles for the 200-meter hurdles in 1979 and the 110-meter hurdles in 1980.

From there, Foster92s medal shelf grew weighty. He earned Olympic silver for the 110-meter hurdles in 1984 and won the world indoor 60-meter hurdles title in 1991. He won ten U.S. National titles and three consecutive World Championships. From 1977 to 1992, Foster ranked in the top ten hurdlers fifteen times, five of them as number one.

He retired from competition in 1996, after which he focused on coaching. He was inducted into the83USATF Hall of Fame83 in 1998.
