Guilherme "Bomba" Vasconcelos’ legacy
Brazil-born Vasconcelos first made a name for himself in 2014, when he joined the cast of the reality show “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil,” which chronicled mixed martial artists attempting to enter the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The jiu jitsu competitor’s efforts were a success, leading to his sole UFC fight, a loss, in July 2014.
After fighting independently, Vasconcelos signed with Bellator shortly thereafter, going 3-3 until his departure in 2019. He then moved on to the Jiu Jitsu World League, but a back injury hampered his recent efforts, forcing him to abandon a competition in Las Vegas.
He made headlines in 2016 and 2017 when he dated pop star Demi Lovato.
All told, Vasconcelos sparred in 16 MMA fights.
On his recent injury
“It was great to feel the energy and see my friends again. But what I came here to do, was not possible to be completed. I believe in my jiu-jitsu and I believe that I could have gone further. But unfortunately the injury I had in my lower back 1 month ago came back … Now the focus is on my recovery.” 4 Instagram post, August 2024
