At least 280 people in the Caribbean and 15 in the United States have died in the wake of Hurricane Matthew, a Category 4 behemoth that devastated Haiti and other parts of the Caribbean Thursday, according to officials.

At least 15 people have been killed by the storm in the Southeastern United States.

Matthew was declared post-tropical by the National Hurricane Center as it moved away from North Carolina on Oct. 9.
