NFL Career
Bugel was a longtime coach in the NFL who created the famous “Hogs” offensive line when he was the line coach for the Redskins in the 1980s. Led by Russ Grimm and Joe Jacoby, the Redskins offensive line helped the team win two Super Bowls with a powerful ground game featuring John Riggins running behind the “Hogs.” Bugel came up with the name in a practice and the group became famous, even doing commercials. He left Washington to be the head coach in Phoenix from 1990 until 1993 and then finished his career back with the Redskins.
