Marvel Comics Inker

Sinnott was known for his work as an inker with Marvel Comics, starting there in 1951 when it was known as Atlas Comics. He left Marvel for a period to work as a freelancer than came back to the company in 1965. Sinnott paired with plotter and penciller Jack Kirby to produce groundbreaking work on “The Fantastic Four.” Sinnott’s slick stylized ink work created the look of Marvel Comics that still exists today.  He also worked on “Captain America” and the graphic novel “The Silver Surfer.” Sinnott worked on the “Amazing Spider-Man newspaper strip until 2019. He was inducted int the Will Eisner Hall of Fame in 2013.

on Joe Sinnott

"Pencilers used to hurl all sorts of dire threats at me if I didn't make certain that Joe, and only Joe, inked their pages. I knew I couldn't satisfy everyone and I had to save the very most important strips for him. To most pencilers, having Joe Sinnott ink their artwork was tantamount to grabbing the brass ring." - from the 2007 book “Brush Strokes with Greatness: The Life & Art of Joe Sinnott,” by Tim Lasiuta
