Julie & Julia
Julie Powell was a food writer who wrote the blog the Julie/Julia Project detailing her attempt to cook every recipe in the iconic Julia Child book “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.” The 2002 blog featured her kitchen mistakes as she made her way through the recipes. The blog led to Powell writing the book "Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen” in 2005. The book was adapted into the 2009 film “Julie & Julia,” which was based on her book and on Child’s autobiography “My Life in France.” The film starred Amy Adams as Powell and Meryl Streep as Julia Child. In 2009, she wrote the book “Cleaving: A Story of Marriage, Meat, and Obsession,” which drew parallels between her work at a butcher shop and her and her husband’s affairs.
Notable Quote
"Food bloggers, like all bloggers, are contentious, they say what they think and they hate on people." "And that's good and valuable. But it's a Wild West kind of world, and people feel free to say things they never would in a face-to-face civil conversation. We have a medium where we can type in the snarky comments we used to just say out loud to our friends." - 2009 in the Orlando Sentinel
