Krystal Anderson (1983–2024), Kansas City Chiefs cheerleader

Krystal Lakeshia (Cunningham) Anderson was an engineer who created patented software to assess pregnancy risks and a former Kansas City Chiefs cheerleader and yoga instructor.

Krystal Anderson’s legacy

Born in Killeen, Texas, Anderson earned a degree in computer science from the University of Richmond. She was an advocate who promoted STEM careers for women and was involved in African dance and cheerleading while at the university.

She cheered with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs for over 100 games between 2006 and 2016, including a stint as team captain and an appearance at the Pro Bowl in 2015. In that capacity, she had the opportunity to perform around the world.

Anderson was also a software engineer, working with Oracle Health to develop healthcare-related software. She holds a patent for “developing software that assesses the risk of post-partum hemorrhage,” according to her obituary. She was also a yoga instructor, and worked with a wide array of charitable organizations, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters of KC, Gabriella’s Little Library, and the First Hand Foundation.

Anderson died while giving birth to her daughter, Charlotte Willow Anderson, who was stillborn. She was predeceased by her infant son, James Charles, and is survived by her husband, Clayton.
