The Softones
The Softones formed in the 1960s in Baltimore, Maryland. They achieved success recording for Avco Records in the 1970s. They received national attention for their songs “I’m Gonna Prove It” and the Top 30 R&B hit “That Old Black Magic.” Brown was known for his falsetto voice similar to that of Earth, Wind & Fire singer Philip Bailey.
