Singing with her sisters
The Emotions were originally formed by Hutchinson’s sisters, Wanda, Sheila and Jeanette. They performed as a gospel act in their early years, later transitioning to R&B and disco. Hutchinson joined the Emotions in 1977 and debuted on their platinum-selling 1977 album “Rejoice.” The album’s top single, “Best of My Love,” soared to the top of the charts and won the sisters a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. The Emotions collaborated with Earth, Wind & Fire for the 1979 hit “Boogie Wonderland,” earning another Grammy nomination. Hutchinson left the group for a time but rejoined the Emotions in later years, singing with them as they collaborated with Snoop Dogg on his 2006 song “Life.”
