Peetah Morgans legacy

The son of Jamaican-born reggae artist Denroy Morgan (19452022), Morgan was born in New York City, one of several musical siblings. Five of those siblings formed Morgan Heritage, first playing together in the 1980s and releasing their debut album, Miracle, in 1994. Later relocating to Jamaica, Morgan Heritage went on to release almost 20 albums over 25 years, most recently 2019s Loyalty. Several of their songs became classics of modern reggae, including Dont Haffi Dread, Down by the River, and Shes Still Loving Me. As their music caught on, the band won two Grammy Awards in the Best Reggae Album category, winning in 2016 for Strictly Roots and in 2019 for Avrakedabra.

In addition to making music with his family, Morgan also had a solo career, weaving hip-hop and R&B into a reggae and dancehall sound.
