Disability Rights Leader
Robert Silverstein was an important leader in American disability rights. He served in the U.S. Senate as staff director and chief counsel for the Subcommittee on Disability Policy of the Senate Committee on Labor and Human Resources, chaired by Senator Tom Harkin. While in that role, he negotiated and drafted bipartisan legislation regarding disability rights. He was a behind-the-scenes architect of more than 20 bills impacting people with disabilities including the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
