Roger Cook’s legacy
Cook and his wife, the late Kathleen Cook, founded K & R Tree and Landscape Company in 1982. That same year, he made his first appearance on “This Old House,” the popular, long-running PBS home improvement show. He contributed to several projects on the series in the years before he became its fulltime landscape expert in 1988. That role spanned 30 years as he drove garden projects at the show92s many renovations and offered practical advice to homeowners with landscape issues.
Those wide suggestions got showcased on “Ask This Old House,” the spinoff show to which Cook contributed. In advice segments, Cook spoke directly to viewers in his unmistakable New England accent as he walked them through solving their various problems with their respective outdoor areas.
In 2018, Cook announced that he would step back from his fulltime role on “This Old House94 due to health issues. He left the show entirely in 2020 after 38 years.
In Cook92s memory, his family established the Cook Family Giving Fund, which will support causes he cared about, including military veterans, land conservation, and medical research.
