Ronald Powell’s legacy
Powell was a star athlete at Rancho Verde High School in Moreno Valley, California, where he was named High School All-American by an array of publications and fast-tracked as a rising star. In 2010, he was selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, where he won MVP. For a time, Rivals.com ranked him as the top prospect in the nation.
Powell went to the University of Florida, where he was a standout Gators star on the field when not struggling with injuries. However, much of his junior year was spent sidelined with injuries that would impact his senior year performance, too. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 2014 and played 14 games as a rookie. However, injuries again took their toll, sidelining him in 2015. The Saints released him later that year.
Powell spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, and Seattle Seahawks, but only in a practice capacity; he saw no playing time. The Seahawks released him during training camp in 2017. In 2019, he played with the Orlando Apollos of the Alliance of American Football, but again landed on the injured list. The league folded later that same year.
