Rusty Golden’s legacy
Born in Brewton, Alabama, Rusty Golden was raised into a world of music. His father was William Lee Golden, who sings baritone in the Hall of Fame country quartet The Oak Ridge Boys. By his teens, Rusty Golden was already an accomplished musician in his own right, joining the group The Rambos at just 13, playing drums. By 17, he was on tour with country musician Larry Gatlin as his pianist.
Golden launched his own pursuits in the 1980s with The Boys Band, for which he and his brother, Chris, also started writing music, along with gospel singer Marc Speer. The trio penned two charting songs, “Put Us Together Againâ€9d and “Sorry Girls,9d plus Rusty and Chris 97 who wrote and performed their own music as The Goldens 97 also made the charts with “Keep the Faith.9d
The Goldens released two albums and a handful of singles, including “Keep the Faith.9d Some of Rusty’s best known work was written for others, including songs for The Booth Brothers and Karen Peck & New River. He also recorded two solo albums, “Angels9d and 9cSober.9d In 2023, he was named keyboard player of the year at the Josie Music Awards.
