Shannon Wilcox (1943–2023), actress in Songwriter, Dallas

Shannon Wilcox was an actress who had a recurring role on “Dallas” and appeared in such movies as “Songwriter” and “Frankie and Johnny.” 

Shannon Wilcox’s legacy 

Wilcox frequently worked with director Garry Marshall (1934–2016), appearing in eight of his films, beginning with “Frankie and Johnny.” She went on to appear in Marshall’s “Runaway Bride,” “The Princess Diaries,” “Raising Helen,” and others. In “Songwriter,” Wilcox starred opposite Willie Nelson, playing his ex-wife. She had a role in “The Karate Kid” as the mother of Elisabeth Shue’s character, and she starred opposite Dudley Moore (1935–2002) in “Six Weeks.” Wilcox’s other films included “The Border,” “Legal Eagles,” “For the Boys,” and “Se7en.” 

On TV, Wilcox appeared as Anita on five episodes of “Dallas,” in the two-part finale of season 13 and in the beginning of season 14. She had a starring role in the short-lived 1987 medical drama “Buck James.” Wilcox also made many guest appearances on TV shows, including “Starsky and Hutch,” “Magnum, P.I.,” “Matlock,” “ER,” and “NCIS.”
