Shelley Smith’s legacy
“The Associates” was one of Smith’s earliest professional acting roles after she began her career as a model. The short-lived sitcom focused on the lives of young Wall Street lawyers, including Smith’s character, Sara James. She went on to star in the TV movie “For Love and Honor” as well as on the TV show it spawned, playing Captain Carolyn Engel in the military series.
Smith made many guest appearances on TV shows in the 1980s, including “Hart to Hart,” “The Love Boat,” “Diff’rent Strokes,” “Magnum, P.I.,” and “Murder, She Wrote.” She was also frequently seen on such game shows as “Super Password” and “10,000 Pyramid,” and she starred in TV movies such as “Scruples” and “The Fantastic World of D.C. Collins.”
Smith later left acting and earned a master’s degree in psychology. She founded the Egg Donor Program, an in vitro fertilization company now known as Hatch Fertilization.
